Buonas noches amigos
These past few weeks seemed to have flown by as already the Second Blogging Challenge has arrived and I have found a somewhat peaceful private moment (it would be nicer if my brother would stop randomly searching my room for something and get out) to blog and reflect on this somewhat controversial topic which asks; when do you think it is appropriate for students to use real photos of themselves on their blogs and why?
In all these past months of blogging I have not yet put a picture of myself up on my blog. I do not credit this to me deciding to do this, but more to the fact that the occasion has never come up. I am an avid Facebook user and even though I know my pictures are not technically mine once I post anything up there I have a bit more control over who sees those picture than I do with my blog. My blog is public to the world; you can search it up on google (believe me I have tried) and it comes up. I particularly don’t want to share with the world pictures of myself, that what I do in real life to people I actually know; it the same reason why I don’t put my last name on my blog, or my school, or my hometown; I have chosen to share this blog with the public and because of that I have to make boundaries.
I have enjoyed so much being able to write on this blog and put my feelings out there in the world and believe that this experience has definitely made me a better writer, but pictures of me? I think that may be getting a little too personal. I know there is a setting on edublogs that lets you make your blog private so only people you approve can see what you have written and I think that may be a good idea for some bloggers when they are starting out or younger kids with their blogs, but even then you should be careful what goes on the internet as it can never come down.
I believe that really the decision is up to you whether or not to put photos up, but as the saying goes; It is better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Andrea,
My class is taking part in the blogging challenge too! Congr8′s on your contribution to this thread. Whilst I totally I agree with you regarding privacy, teaching younger children to use Web technology is important and they enjoy seeing photos of themselves, as it is all about them. It also provides a conversation starter for their families as often they “forget” what has happened that day. What more motivation and purpose for children to know their work and images will be posted on the web.
We are allowed to post photos with names on our blog with the support of our very tech savvy Principal and informed community.
All the best with your blog (and you know have a flag from NZ!)
Hello, my names Isaiah and I am participating in the EduBlog challenge as well. I can look at this discussion from your point of view but I disagree. I loved that you explained why you didn’t agree, and you actually started to convince me as well! Yet, I think this topic can be looked at both ways. If you would like to know my reasons you should go visit my blog post.(:
